#11 Itinerary for Fox Creek VA to Damascus VA. Appalachian Trail (AT) Adventure 4days/3nights/45 miles of Hiking and Primitive Camping:

1.      Thursday 10/13/16: We meet at WoodChuck’s Hostel @ 533 Docie street Damascus. VA 24236. Phone #(406)407-1272. That night we go over our maps, hiking plan, backpack check, dinner and then bedtime.

2.      Friday 10/14/16: After eating breakfast, brushing our teeth, hygiene and loading our packs we park our cars in public parking and walk 2 blocks to Mt. Roger’s Outfitters #(276)475-5416 for our shuttle ride to our starting point for our hike. We start at the Appalachian Trail and VA state road 603 at Fox Creek. From Fox Creek we hike on the AT past Old Orchard Shelter (2.3 miles) and on to Wise Shelter (7.2 miles) for the day. If we do not make it to Wise Shelter we can camp in the open past Scales (on the AT) and before Wise Shelter. Dinner, campfire and then bedtime. There are 3 beautiful views for the day. I call them “Trail Jewels” We collect them by having our picture/video taken with the Jewels.
  1. Saturday 10/15/16: After eating breakfast, brushing our teeth, hygiene and loading our packs we head out to our next night’s stay which is Thomas Knob Shelter (5.2 miles of hiking on the AT) During the 5.2 mile hike we will witness the most beautiful scenery of the Adventure. After arriving at the shelter we will take a break, leave our gear at the shelter (with 1 person staying behind to watch) we will then hike with no weight another 3 miles round trip to the highest point in Virginia which is Mt. Rogers 5,729 ft. After arriving back at the shelter each person will have time to walk around safely and have alone time. Dinner, campfire and then bedtime. All day we will witness “Trail Jewels”
  2. Sunday 10/16/16: After eating breakfast, brushing our teeth, hygiene and loading our packs we head out to our next night’s stay which is Lost Mountain Shelter (12 miles of hiking on the AT)  Dinner, campfire and then bedtime. On this day we will witness 3 or 4 “Trail Jewels” which include Sunrise at Thomas Knob Shelter, Elk Garden, Buzzard Rock and Beech Mountain.
  3. Monday 10/17/16: After eating breakfast, brushing our teeth, hygiene and loading our packs we head out from Lost Mountain Shelter to our ending point which is Damascus VA WoodChuck’s Hostel. (11 miles) We all take showers at the Hostel, have dinner together around 3pm and then we all head back home with wore out bodies and great memories in mind.
